Platinum is really the best way to go if money isn't an option. White gold is really just rhodium plated, which is in the platinum family. However it will wear off, quicker on some people than others, but it will wear off. When that happens you're "white" ring is now a dingy yellow. But that platinum ring will never do that. And a brushed finish will smooth out just like any other finish. Florentine, and hammer finishes to an extent. But the reason I feel that is wrong is because scratches that you will put into the ring are normally a lot deeper than the scratches that you use to make a brushed finish. I personally prefer yellow gold over everything, but if was to have to choose a white metal, and wouldn't mind paying 4 times the price for platinum, I would. It really is a better metal than gold, and it is so much denser.
